The Tale of Dylan's Remarkable Healing Tail

Dylan
Dylan

On July 8th, 2024, Dylan, a beloved lurcher, sustained an injury to his tail whilst adventuring through some brambles (see image below). His owner, Steph, promptly took him to the vet. Describing the situation, Steph explained, “The vet couldn’t even clean the wound properly because Dylan didn’t want him to touch it. He couldn’t bandage it either because of where it was. This left Dylan’s tail vulnerable to infection.”

The vet prescribed antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and painkillers, and advised Steph to wash the wound twice daily, using an antiseptic spray. Despite these efforts, the prognosis was grim. Steph recalled, “Unfortunately, the vet thought that the likely outcome would be that Dylan would lose his tail because there was so little skin to knot together at the tail end, and because he’s a lurcher he has very thin skin anyway.”

Undeterred, Steph diligently followed the vet’s instructions, washing the wound twice a day, applying Leucillin spray after each wash, and using the Photizo device every evening. Remarkably, when Steph took Dylan back to the vet on July 17th, just nine days after the injury, the vet was astonished by the progress. (See image below). Dylan was discharged and Steph was advised to continue the same routine until the scab naturally fell off.

Reflecting on the experience, Steph shared, “Previously, we had only used the Photizo to help with the muscles in Dylan’s back, so it was an eye-opener to see how effective it is with healing, especially on such a bad wound.” On August 4th, Steph shared a final update: “One last photo of Dylan’s tail now that the scab has come away. It’s healed beautifully.”

Dylan’s recovery has been nothing short of extraordinary. A huge thanks to Steph for allowing us to be a part of Dylan's journey.

If you would like to know more about how the Photizo can help you and your pets, please get in touch.
